Curly Girl

For waves, curls, coils, and kinks

Get to know your hair, one wash day at a time.

The Curly Girl App keeps your wash days, your products, and how your hair felt in one place, so you can see what your texture really loves.

Curly Girl App is free on iPhone and Android

Nine hair strands drawn side by side, from a loose 2A wave to a tight 4C coil.
Every pattern here is doing exactly what it is built to do. Curl type is one part of the story. Porosity, strand thickness, and what your hair has been through matter just as much, and CurlyGirl pays attention to all of it.

01 · Wash day

Snap your shelf.

Take one photo of the bottles on your counter. CurlyGirl outlines every product it finds, you tap the ones you used, and each one lands on your shelf with the label already read. No typing with wet hands.

  • In the store aisle? Scan the barcode.

Pull up the product and add it before you reach the checkout.

  • Or find it by brand.

Search the catalog and tap it in.

  • Log what you did.

Products, techniques, the day. Small notes now turn into real answers later.

Photos are read by AI services we name in our privacy policy. A photo add uses one of your 20 free AI uses each week. Barcode and brand adds are always free.

A photo of four products on a bathroom counter. Three are outlined and checked; the jar is left out.
Tap a bottle to leave it out. The rest go on your shelf together.

02 · Day 1

Tell it how your hair feels.

The day after a wash, tap how it feels and what went well. Add a photo or a note if you want one. The next morning, CurlyGirl shows what you said yesterday, so keeping it current takes a tap.

“Small notes now turn into real answers later.”

An example check-in the day after a wash: she picked Good, with Defined and Soft under what went well, and a note that her crown dried a little flat. The next morning the app offers yesterday's answers back, ready to keep with one tap.

03 · Day 2

See how your wash works together.

CurlyGirl reads the ingredients in everything you used and gives the mix a gentle read: moisture and protein balance, what might build up, what might be missing. Plain words, never a lecture.

Ingredients you avoid

Tell us what you skip, like fragrance or a specific preservative, and every product gets checked against your list. When a label is missing, we say so instead of guessing.

An example wash mix for six products: three bring moisture, one protein, one cleanses, one conditions, two are oils or butters, and one carries a lasting silicone. The insight below it reads: A clarifying wash could help soon.

04 · Day 3 and on

Let the patterns show themselves.

After a few washes, CurlyGirl starts noticing what your good days have in common. Your check-in photos line up by day, so you can watch your hair change over time.

Four check-in photos from one wash, one per day. The curls are tightest on wash day and loosen a little each day after: Loving it on wash day, Good on day 1 and day 2, Okay on day 3.

Hair Talk

An example Hair Talk exchange. She asks why her curls go flat by day three. The answer points out that a heavier butter was in every wash where she said flat by day two, explains that fine strands get weighed down by butters faster, and suggests trying a lighter cream next wash.

Hair Talk answers from your own wash history and real hair science. It helps you think it through. It never diagnoses.

Our approach

Real hair science, translated.

Everything CurlyGirl points out is grounded in established hair science. We skip the jargon and hand you the one why that helps tonight.

  1. Your texture is the point

Shrinkage, coils, and waves are your hair doing exactly what it is built to do. We work with it, always.

  2. Balance over rules

Protein and moisture are both pillars, and your hair wants them in balance. No one-size-fits-all method here.

  3. One clear why

One why you can use beats five facts you cannot. Every insight comes with a calm next step.

Same science, Two ways to say it

  • The textbook: Occlusive agents form a hydrophobic barrier that reduces water loss.

CurlyGirl: Oils seal moisture in, they don't add it. Leave-in first, then the oil to lock it down.

  • The textbook: Match product weight to strand thickness.

CurlyGirl: Fine strands get weighed down by heavy butters faster. If your curls go limp, a lighter cream often holds your pattern better.

  • The textbook: High-porosity hair loses moisture faster and leans on protein more.

CurlyGirl: Color-treated hair tends to drink up moisture and lose it fast, so a little protein in your rotation helps it hold on.
